Thousands engage in prayer online
An amazing 6,000 people joined in to take part in Elim’s first-ever online prayer event. Hosted live at Rediscover Church, Exeter, Christians joined in from across the world.
They included home groups, families and large gatherings in churches throughout Britain. It’s estimated 100 churches from 19 nations took part.
The event was hosted by Elim Prayer and led on the evening by Sarah Whittleston and Mark Pugh.
Sarah, the leader of Elim Prayer, says, “I am in awe of what God has done. He’s stirred our hearts to actively engage in prayer. There seems to be a growing hunger for prayer across Elim and I’m excited to see where he leads us and how he answers prayer.
“From the North, South, East and West, Elim churches prayed. Elim missionaries across the globe joined in online too.”
Reports have come in of the tangible sense of God’s presence as we prayed across multiple locations and nations.
“During the event we based our intercession on Isaiah 61, calling out to God for a fresh move of the Spirit; for salvation and breakthrough; for the family of nations and our local communities to experience increased transformation; and for wisdom for our government and leaders at this critical time.
“We encouraged a time of waiting on God and listening to what the Holy Spirit was saying. There were prophetic pictures and words given at the event and in the various locations. We felt the challenge from God to listen to his sound in the nation and not the sound of the enemy or culture. God is at work and he’s calling us to partner with him in our prayers.”
During the evening, live worship took place led by the Rediscover team and Elim Sound.
“We cried out, ‘Lord, send revival; start in me’,” Sarah adds.
Hundreds of people connected in the online chat room as our pastors prayed for requests and shared answers to prayer. One story came from Zimbabwe about a person missing for ten days. As we prayed the person was found alive and well.
“There were so many people working behind the scenes to make the event happen and we are hugely grateful for their willingness to serve. It was a real picture of the Elim Movement working together to serve the Movement.
“Elim Prayer exists to champion life-transforming prayer across the Elim Movement. We aim to equip, encourage and enable prayer.
“Engage Prayer is an opportunity for churches and individuals across our Movement to engage with God in prayer, worship, intercession, praise and petition. We can’t wait to hear more stories of answered prayers!
“We long to see lives changed, communities transformed and churches thriving. Prayer is vital for every disciple, church, leader and nation! “We believe this is the start of a movement of prayer that will change us and bring change around us. Who’s up for the next one?!”

It was a ‘revelation’ says Chris Cartwright, Elim's General Superintendent
Chris Cartwright gave the event his support. He said, “Elim’s first-ever national online prayer event was a revelation! All over the UK and in many nations around the world we joined together in prayer, worship and in faith for God to move in our lives, our churches and our communities.
“Using the extraordinary reach of digital and media technologies, this event released the sheer power of praying people.
“As one of our national leaders, Dave Campbell, said, ‘The internet is used for so many harmful purposes – it’s great to see it being used for the purposes of God.’”
