Band of Bible Brothers
Two MPower men’s group leaders share their discipleship stories.
Aaron Davies-Whitfield – Pembrokeshire
The men’s group ‘Band of Bible Brothers’ began because there was a void of fellowship with Christian guys that I knew from different churches across Pembrokeshire.
MPower helped us to see just how important men’s fellowship is.
We decided to meet once every four or five weeks due to the commitments men had within their own lives and churches. We started with 14 guys from about nine churches – men from all walks of life, new believers, husbands, singles, pastors, and working guys from a variety of occupations.
As it involved lots of churches, we decided to take it in turns to host an evening. Whoever is hosting does it either at their home or church.
We typically have two-hour meetings, an hour of food and fellowship, some worship, then someone sharing from Scripture, discussion, and prayer.
We also had a curry night for a social which always goes down well with guys.
The group has grown to around 24 members on our WhatsApp group from across Pembrokeshire, with ages ranging from 19 up to mid-40s.
Members have said that the group has been a great encouragement to them, meeting with other like-minded men in a place they can bring non-believers to as well. They have appreciated the fellowship with men, especially those who are in a minority within their own church.
We are grateful for God’s blessing on the group and how he is using it to strengthen men’s faith, and help them find brothers they can open up to, fight the good fight of faith with and enjoy doing life together.
Alex Morgan – Ealing
In the summer of 2018, I started to gather a group of men from our church who lived in my area to meet together in my home in West London.
Our discipleship group has met almost every Wednesday night since, either in my home or, during the past years, online.
These weekly gatherings are some of my favourite moments in my week as I gather with like-minded men and we grapple with issues of life together.
I have loved watching as our group has grown in our relationship with God and with one another; men who once were just turning up on Sunday mornings are now becoming fully active in our church and in their relationship with God.
One member encourages others to bring their prayer requests as he says God answers the prayers of this group.
Doing life with these men is one of the biggest privileges of my ministry, as we hold each other accountable and daily lift each other up in prayer.
