Jack McKee and Paul Thomas acknowledged in the Queen's Birthday Honours

Congratulations to Jack McKee, pastor of Elim’s New Life City Church in Belfast, and Elim Chaplain Paul Thomas, who have both received honours in the Queen's Birthday Honours list.

The Queen’s Birthday Honours List for 2017 has been published, with 1,109 people receiving an award. The Honours list recognises the incredible achievements of extraordinary people across the UK, including Jack McKee and (David) Paul Thomas.

Jack McKee is made a Member of the Order of the British Empire

Jack McKee, who pastors the New Life City Church, Belfast, was awarded a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE), which is given for outstanding achievement or service to the community. Jack has received his MBE for services to the community in Shankill and Falls, Belfast. 

Commenting on being made an MBE, Jack McKee said, "I want to say a huge thanks to those who saw fit to nominate me and to those who supported the nomination. Thank you for seeing something worthy enough for such an honour."

"A very special thanks to the Leadership and everyone at New Life City Church, past and present, who have been part of this journey and are therefore rightly part of this award. To the Management Team and all our staff and volunteers at City Life Centre and Stadium Projects. This is as much your award as it is mine."

Paul Thomas receives the British Empire Medal

Paul Thomas, of Llandysul, Ceredigion, receives the British Empire Medal (BEM) which is awarded for ‘hands-on’ service to the community. He received his BEM for services to charity in Africa and Pastoral Care in the Fire Service in Wales.

Paul is the founder and trustee of Ty Cariad Africa, which was set up in 2003 support the work of the VCCP – Ty Cariad children’s home in Namugongo, near Kampala in Uganda. He is also an Elim Chaplain and serves as Chaplain for the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service.

"I am humbled and honoured to receive this award which came as a great surprise," said Paul on getting the news. "I count it as a privilege to serve the wonderful children in Uganda, and the courageous and selfless firefighters in Wales."
