Online prayer meeting builds unity for the future

Churches, Leaders and Networks are collaborating towards a UK & Ireland virtual Pentecost prayer event on Sunday 23 May 2021.

Plans by the National Day of Prayer and Worship working alongside church denominations and Christian ministries to hold a huge online prayer gathering on Pentecost Sunday 23 May 2021 have seen over 37,000 people register since March.

The ‘In One Accord’ event at 2.00 pm on Pentecost Sunday will unite Christians and churches from across the UK and Ireland in an online prayer meeting on Facebook and YouTube.

This will be preceded by a 11.00 am Pentecost Praise celebration which will air on the Christian TV platform, TBN UK.

This is the first step of the third phase of a vision of the National Day of Prayer and Worship. The vision behind the call this coming Pentecost Sunday is to unite the church around praying for revival, unity and healing for our communities.

This builds upon the 32,500 Christians who gathered at Wembley Stadium for a national day of prayer and worship in September 2012. This was followed by four years of 'Joining the Dots' meetings across our family of nations which saw over 300 towns and cities visited by the National Day of Prayer and Worship team.

Denominations, regional networks and local churches from across Scotland, Northern Ireland, England, The Republic of Ireland and Wales have already signed up to join this event. Watch Elim's Chris Cartwright and Sarah Whittleston discuss the event with Dr Jonathan Oloyede.

Speaking about how plans for Virtual Pentecost, Dr Jonathan Oloyede of the National Day of Prayer and Worship said, “The unity of the church is so important as we move forward from this pandemic as we step into all that God has for us. I’m so encouraged that over the last 8 weeks, over 30,000 people have signed up and registered to be part of Virtual Pentecost. We have shared this vision, which is of God; it’s not mine, with leaders and they have said that God seems to be making this to happen.

“There are various denominations and streams preparing in prayer for Pentecost and my prayer that we will unite together at the end to celebrate God is doing and ask for His Holy Spirit to fall afresh on the church as we go forward to see our families, communities, churches and nation changed.”
