Our chaplains’ work has been bolstered by joining group

free churches lodoThe work of Elim chaplains is being bolstered by Elim’s recently joining the Free Churches Group (FCG).

The organisation, which is strong in its chaplaincy work within sectors such as prisons, healthcare and education, comprises 27 denominations and promotes Christian witness in the public sphere.

“Elim personnel are now being appointed to a number of FCG teams,” said Nigel Tween, director of Elim’s Chaplaincy Association.

“We are grateful for this new link with FCG colleagues and pray that we see further development and flourishing of chaplaincy ministry.”

Elim has around 30 full-time chaplains serving in organisations including the NHS and Ministry of Defence, social care, the emergency services and food banks.

One of them, prison chaplain Simeon Sturney, explained the importance of his role.

“You hear stories that are very real, very earthy… it’s my job to offer these ladies dignity and respect, to support them, steer them to safety where I can, and offer to pray with them.”
