Don’t forget, God SEES!
We know that God is watching our every move but sometimes we need to be reminded of that, writes Leanne Mallet
In Psalm 139 we are reminded that God knows us inside and out. We cannot hide from him. You may think your spouse or your parents know you better than anyone, but God knows you even more than they do ‒ he created you!
For some time now, there’s been a post I’ve been seeing across social media, and it often comes to my mind in different situations. It simply says this: “I saw that” – God.
We know God is all-knowing, but sometimes we need the reminder that he also SEES. He doesn’t see just the big moments in our lives or the moments everyone else does ‒ he sees our daily choices, our decisions, our motives, our reactions and the things we go through. He sees what people say to us, how we are treated, and how we respond.
Years ago, many of us wore bracelets with the letters WWJD printed on them, meaning: What Would Jesus Do? Their purpose was to remind us that when faced with situations or decisions we should pause and ask ourselves: What would Jesus do in this situation? How would Jesus approach this?
We all have to make choices daily ‒ choices where the outcomes really matter. It may even become a battle between what we want to do versus what we know is the right thing to do.
As a follower of Jesus, when we made him Lord of our lives, our hands came off the steering wheel of our life and we handed it over to him.
Are we perfect? No. But choosing God’s way in our decisions, reactions, and responses will always be the best way ‒ even when it’s not the easiest choice. Obedience matters, because he is the one we are serving, and he has the best plan for us.
Today just know:
He sees when you’ve sacrificed or gone without so that others could have.
He sees when you’ve gone to the back of the queue for others.
He sees when you gave what you had to bless someone else.
He sees when you stepped away from that ungodly conversation.
He sees when you ended that relationship or job ‒ knowing it was the right thing to do.
He sees when you told the truth, even though it made you unpopular.
He also sees what is hidden in the dark.
And another reminder today ‒ God sees our pain. When we might think no one understands, God does.
In Genesis 16, Hagar flees into the wilderness ‒ pregnant, alone, and mistreated. God finds her, calls her by name, and meets her there. She calls him EL ROI ‒ THE GOD WHO SEES ME. The place where she felt abandoned became the place where she realised she was seen and never alone. God knows your heart. Allow him to speak into the place where you are at today. Go somewhere quiet and listen. He may ask you to do something to put things right ‒ just like Hagar. She had to return to a difficult situation because God had a plan for her.
In 1 Samuel 16:7 it says, “People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” Zacchaeus was seen up the tree. The widow was seen giving what she had. David went from a shepherd boy to the king. God knows, and he sees.
Often, just knowing that God sees can bring peace to your heart or your situation. But sometimes, like Hagar, we have to act to make things right. At other times we need to take a step back and leave it with the Lord. We don’t need to battle to prove ourselves… in those moments it is enough to remember: “I saw that” – God.
