BE FREE IS ELIM MISSIONS' CAMPAIGN AGAINST HUMAN EXPLOITATION. HUMAN EXPLOITATION IS DEFINED AS THE ACT OF TREATING PEOPLE UNFAIRLY IN ORDER TO BENEFIT FROM THEIR EFFORTS OR LABOUR. THIS CAN TAKE THE FORM OF FORCED LABOUR, SEXUAL EXPLOITATION AND MODERN DAY SLAVERY.

One of the legacies of genocide and resulting poverty in Cambodia is sex tourism, which takes advantage of lower income families, seeking to exploit them and their children. Seeing the plight of many young women caught up in this industry, Elim Cambodia responded by establishing the Be Free centre in the capital city Phnom Penh. The vision of Be Free Cambodia is to see lives restored through a programme of rehabilitation, mentoring and discipling.

In Pakistan bonded labour means that young children are forced to work due to the extreme poverty within their families. Much of this is in brick kilns, where they make bricks for up to 12 hours a day. The only way out for these children is education, so Elim Pakistan is providing this through Grace School. By giving enslaved children an excellent education we can break the cycle of poverty they have been born into.
