Hurricane Melissa began forming in the Caribbean Sea on 20 October and rapidly intensified into a Category 5 storm before making landfall in southwestern Jamaica at 11:00 a.m. on 28 October. The hurricane brought destructive winds and torrential rain across parts of Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Cuba, and the Bahamas.
As of 3:00 p.m. on 30 October, reports confirm at least 34 fatalities — 25 in Haiti, eight in Jamaica, and one in the Dominican Republic.

Our partners at Samaritan’s Purse are already deploying several cargo planes carrying emergency relief supplies to Kingston, alongside a Disaster Assistance Response Team assessing the situation and coordinating aid on the ground.
