October 2026 Update

Oct

Our final Sunday at Japan Kingdom Church.

Hello Friends,

We hope and pray that you are all well!!

As of September 5th, we have been Elim Missionaries in Tokyo, Japan for 2 years!! We give God all the praise that He chose us, an undeserving couple from Birmingham, to share of His goodness, and to have the honour to carry the light of Jesus with us, in the land of the rising sun, to one of the most unreached people groups in the world - the Japanese.

We THANK YOU ALL from the bottom of our hearts, for all of ways in which you’ve partnered with us. For your giving, your prayers, your encouragement; we cannot express enough how grateful we are to you, but we hope you see that this mission is not ours alone, the fruits and successes are also because of you! So thank you, thank you and thank you some more!

With a population of 123 million (in decline), currently less than 1% identify as evangelical Christians, our hearts are still to see this nation, know and worship the one, True King! And you know, the past half a year has probably been one of the most difficult seasons of our lives. Yet, despite the variety of new challenges, the spiritual battles and the sudden financial hurdles, His kindness and Presence in our daily living and amongst our local and wider community have been evident through it all. How can we know of a love like His and not share that with those who only know of a life absent of Him?! That said, as the Lord allows, we will continue here and press on toward the goal, with you all on our side. So let’s keep going together!

Below are a few highlights to catch you all up!

Highlights

  • Our 2 year term with Japan Kingdom Church ended last month, with us saying “see you around” to so many that we call family here in Tokyo. There were tears and hugs all-round, since the love we've felt over the 2 years have helped us settle in well. We are sincerely, incredibly grateful to Pastor Marcel and Lady Chiaki for welcoming us to Japan and into their loving church. Our prayers will continue to be with JKC, their leaders and their ministry.
  • I (Nitasha) had the privilege to teach English to a group of 10, non-Christian senior citizens who have a deep desire to learn English from somebody from England (rather than American-English). It was a wonderful experience for me also, being a part of such a lovely group and being asked to share my testimony! For most of them, they’d never heard of the name of Jesus Christ. Though it was what felt like a seed planted, some of them have asked to meet with me personally to go for coffee, so please pray that their hearts are open to Him.
  • Recently, an event was held at the Christian café that we’ve been helping at. Jordan had the opportunity to be one of the DJ’s for the opening of the rooftop of the café where he was mixing a vinyl set list which included Christian music. With a turnout of around 70 people, there were Christian friend’s mingling with Japanese non-Christian’s, making friends, building community, and having conversations about Jesus! The response was amazing!

What’s next?…

  • In mid-October we both enrol onto an Intensive Church Planting course for 2 weeks with an organisation called City To City Japan. It’s been a lengthy process to have been accepted onto the course, but we are excited and confident that we will be getting quality, contextual training that prayerfully will help shape how we move forward in Church planting in Japan; it’s not something we intend to rush, but we want to be equipped and intentional in our long-term planning.
  • We are so excited to start our new partnership in a months time with ‘Gospel Through A Click’. A media ministry that record excellent Japanese Christian testimonies. We have told you all about them in our previous newsletters. These short films are used to encourage and introduce the Gospel to Japanese people in their native language. We’re really looking forward to this partnership and seeing God glorified through our joint efforts.
  • And finally, as of next month, we will be enrolling in a local language school, and potential, a language exchange programme. Classes will be full-time during the week for about 3 hours per day with expected home study. What’s really great about this is the language school has Christian teachers and staff, and, it’s only 20 minutes walk away! This is very much an answer to prayer and we (especially Jordan) is excited to take on this new adventure in learning.

Prayer requests:

  • Would you join us in prayer about the above, the next steps. That we will be effective, in our language learning, eager students in the course; that we’d be equipped with what God would have us learn and grow in, and that we would be helpful and fruitful in serving GTAC with our skills.
  • After spending 3 months and countless visits of going back and forth to the City Hall, pension office and the immigration office (sometimes every day). We believe we have now submitted everything needed for the renewal of our visas. Would you pray that it is all sufficient and we are granted the visas soon.
  • As mentioned, it’s been an incredibly difficult few months, there’s been no time to stop, process, or relax, before the next thing. We have had to do a lot (with the help of so many of our good friends here) to make sure our next season is a healthy and prosperous one. So this month, we would really appreciate a break of some sort at the end of the month, before starting language learning & the start of the new partnership with GTAC. Please pray for His provision and favour to take some time to stop so that we can start well.

Thank you all so much, for everything. Thank you for journeying with us. Thank you for being such a huge part of what God is doing in Japan, for His kingdom.

All our love,

Nitasha & Jordan
